Responsibilities of a NASBA Registry Reviewer

A National Registry administrator will contact the Registry Reviewer and provide the materials necessary to conduct his/her review of a course submitted by a CPE provider.

At a minimum, the Registry Reviewer should:

  • Determine whether the course is correctly classified in the appropriate field of study using the 23 NASBA subject area classifications. (View classifications here.)
  • Determine whether the program level is appropriate.  The program levels are: basic, intermediate, advanced, update, or overview.  The reviewer should be satisfied that the course is written at the stated level.
  • Determine whether the course is technically accurate, current, and sufficient to meet stated learning objectives.  The reviewer should assess whether the course is a quality product.  This judgment should be based on the technical accuracy of the course, how current and relevant the material is, how the material is presented, and whether the delivery medium enhances the presentation of the material.  
  • Determine whether the course is grammatically accurate.  The reviewer should assess whether the course has been properly proofread.  Courses which contain major/numerous grammatical mistakes are not acceptable.  Neatness and good form are also important.
  • Determine that answers provided to the review and final examination questions for self-study programs are the correct/appropriate answer—in line with technical accuracy considerations.
  • Determine that an adequate monitoring mechanism is employed for group internet based programs.

The deliverable to the NASBA National Registry staff is the completed NASBA Registry Reviewer Form. This online form provides guidance on the various items requested for review as well as the reviewer’s recommendation for the course/program.
